Art? 2D Shape Technique introduction. First Years: Line and Shape Drawings with overlapping. Graphite, Crayon and Marker Second
Years: Line and Shape with Stippling Technique. Graphite, Colored Pencil and Marker.
Week 2: Sept 10, 2010: Art Appreciation:
From 2d to 3D! First Years: Drawing the pyramid, cylinder, cube and rectangular prism. Graphite, Crayon or Colored Pencil. Second
Years: Drawing from props, pyramids, cylinders, cubes, rectangular prisms. Charcoal and Colored Pencil.

2010: Art Appreciation: Draw from the Eye! First Years: Drawing the sphere from life. Charcoal. Second Years: Drawing the sphere and
elliptical disks from life. Charcoal
Week 4, Sept 24, 2010: Art Appreciation: Understanding Perspective 1. First Years:
Guided Landscape Drawing, Graphite and Crayon, Ruler. Second Years: Architectural Drawing based on shape studies. Charcoal,
Colored Pencil or Crayon and Marker, Ruler.
OCTOBER 2010: DRAWING UNIT
Friday, October 1, 2010: NO CLASS! Mrs. Smith
will be preparing for her show at the Pearl Flincher Museum of Art in Northwest Houston.
Week 5, Oct 8, 2010: Art Appreciation:
Understanding Perspective 2. First Years: Guided Architectural Drawing, Graphite, Crayon and Marker, Ruler. Second Years: Creating
an Abstract Architectural space using 1 and 2 point perspective. Graphite or Charcoal, Colored Pencil, Ruler.
Week 6, Oct
15, 2010: Art Appreciation: Features of the Face. First and Second Years will be using small mirrors with which to draw a self-portrait. Graphite, Crayon or Colored Pencil.
Week 7, Oct 22, 2010: Art Appreciation: Using Grid lines to recreate from photos. First Years & Second Years will be picking pieces by Master Artists to create a reproduction. This class will repeat for next
lesson. Graphite, Charcoal, Crayon, Colored Pencil or Marker, Ruler
Week 8, Oct 29, 2010:No Art Appreciation. First
Years & Second Years will be using this class to finish up previous lesson and any other projects not completed up till now. All

NOVEMBER 2010: DRAWING UNIT
Week 9, Nov 5,2010: Art Appreciation: Atmospheric Perspective 1. First
Years: Guided Landscape in SOFT Pastels. Second Years: Students will chose their own Landscape from Photo and adjust it to the
principals of Atmospheric Perspective. ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A SMOCK BY THIS DATE!
Week 10, Nov 12, 2010: Art Appreciation:
Atmospheric Perspective 2. Smudging with a Paint Brush. First Years: Guided Landscape in Oil Pastels. Second Years: Students
will chose their own Landscape from Photo and adjust it to the principals of Atmospheric Perspective.
Week 11, Nov 19,
2010: Art Appreciation: Color my World. First Years: Guided Still Life Drawing in Soft Pastels. Second Years: Students will
set up their own still lifes with props and create a drawing in Oil Pastels.
DECEMBER 2010: PAINTING UNIT
Week 12, Dec
3, 2010: Art History: Chinese Brush Work. First Years: Will choose Chinese characters to create an interesting painting. Second
Years will create a landscape painting in the Chinese style using Bamboo Brushes. Watercolor and Ink on Bristol Paper.

13, Dec 10, 2010: Art History: Gaelic Figure Paintings: First Years: will create paintings with patterns and shapes found in
Gothic Art. Second Years: will create a narrative painting using symbols and or figures found in Gothic art. Watercolor,
Ink and Marker on Bristol Paper.
No CLASS ON December 17, 2010, as it is early dismissal for Christmas Break.

JANUARY 2011: PAINTING UNIT
Week 14, Jan 7, 2011: Art History: Italian Frescos. First Years: will create paintings based on the perspective frescoes of the early Renaissance. Second Years: will create a master
copy painting based on previously learned grid lesson. Tempera & Watercolor on Bristol Board.
Week 15, Jan 14, 2011: Art History: Northern Renaissance, ie. Rembrandt and Jan Vermeer. First Year students will do a guided still life painting based
on the works of Jan Vermeer. Second Year students will work from a master copy of their choice of Rembrandts using the grid
system. Acrylic on Bristol Board.
Week 16, Jan 21, 2011: Art History: Impressionistic Brush Work. First Years: will
do a Guided Landscape with Impressionistic brushstrokes. Second years: will choose their own master copy to work from. Acrylic on Bristol Board..
No Class on January 28, 2011, because of Eagle Height’s Convention.
FEBRUARY 2011: PAINTING UNIT
Week
17, Feb 4, 2011: Art History: Post Impressionism, VAN GOGH: First Years will create a guided Van Gogh master copy of Starry
Night. Second Years: will create Van Gogh master copy of their own choosing. Acrylic on Bristol Board
Week 18, Feb 11, 2011: Art History: 20th Century Art: Surrealism, Magritte and Dali. First Years & Second Years: students will be
given a series of words in which to create a painting from imagination. Acrylic on Bristol Board.
Week 19, Feb 18, 2011:
Art History: 20th Century Art: Pop Art, Warhol & Frankenthaler. First years will choose one of Warhol’s works to do a master copy
of. Second years will create their own Warhol/Frankenthaler-like painting by choosing objects of their own from source files.Acrylic & Marker on Bristol Board.
Week 20, Feb 25, 2011: Art History: 20th Century Art: Abstracts, Kandinsky, Stella
and Ernst. First and Second Years will experiment with the processes of decalcomania, ophelism and enclablossure. Acrylic on
Bristol Board.
MARCH 2011: PAINTING UNIT UP TO SPRING BREAK
Week 21, Mar 4, 2011: Art History: Famous Portraits from Leonardo
da Vinci to Chuck Close. First & Second Years: will choose one portrait to either copy, distort or create anew using grid work,
cubomania, collage, or frottage techniques. Acrylic, Paper, Marker, Crayon, Colored Pencil, Ink and Bristol Board.
Week 22, Mar 11, 2011: No Art History, students will use this class to finish or touch up any of the previous unit’s paintings.

CLASS MARCH 18, 2011: SPRING BREAK
Week 23, Mar 25, 2011: Begin Sculpture Unit: Art Appreciation: Japanese Origami.
First Year students will be guided in making basic origami shapes. Second year students will do more advanced origami works. Paper, Graphite, Marker.
APRIL 2011: SCULPTURE UNIT
Week 24, Apr 1, 2011: Art Appreciation: Clay Figurines 1. Animals: First
and Second Years will use Sculpey clay to make bake-able clay animals from imagination.
Week 25, Apr 8, 2011: Art Appreciation:
Clay Figurines 2. People: First and Second Years will use Sculpey Clay to make bake-able clay people from imagination.

26, Apr 15, 2011: Art Appreciation: Plaster Molds. First and Second years will use modeling clay to make subtractive plaster
molds.
NO CLASS APRIL 22, 2011: GOOD FRIDAY NO SCHOOL.
Week 27, Apr 29, 2011: Art Appreciation: Soap and Ink
Block Carving. First years will create soap carvings, Second Years will create Ink Block Carvings. This will require two
class periods.
MAY 2011: SCULPTURE UNIT
Week 28, May 6, 2011: Continued from previous lesson, students will transfer the
impressions of their carvings to paper via ink.
Week 29, May 13, 2011: Art Appreciation: Monumental architectural sculpture.
First and Second year students will use cardboard, balsa wood and popsickle sticks to create a public space in 1/10 scale.

30, May 20, 2011: No Art History, students will use this time to finish or fix any previous work that needs it.
Week
31, May 27, 2011: LAST DAY OF CLASS, STUDENT SHOW AND PARTY.
Parents may arrive as early as 4:00PM to join us for refreshments
and view your student’s work through this year’s projects.
